WARRANTIES

There are 4 separate warranties involved when you buy a solar PV system. Don’t be deceived by slick talking sales people who assert their system comes with a 25 year warranty. Make sure you know the difference between a performance warranty, and product warranty, and how long each part of the solar installation is covered, and what it covers.

The 4 separate warranties are as follows:

  1. Panel product warranty – Typically 10 or 12 years
  2. Panel performance warranty – 25 years is the industry standard
  3. Inverter Warranty – usually 5 years, but can often be extended to 10+ years by registering your purchases with the manufacturer. This is the most important warranty because this is the component most likely to fail.
  4. Installation Warranty – provided by the installer, can be 5 or even up to 12 years.

Electrical Lightbringers offers a full 10 year installation warranty on all solar systems sold. This warranty is in addition to your consumer guarantees, as provided under Australian Consumer Law.

Servicing of the system is not mandatory for this warranty, but we do recommend an inspection every two years, to maintain peak performance. The four different warranties of the Solar PV installation are outlined below:

  1. Solar Panel product Warranty– This is much more important than the almost impossible to enforce “panel performance warranty”. The product warranty states how long they are covered by the manufacturer for defects in workmanship or materials. Download the manufacturer documents below, read, print and keep them in a safe place.
  2. Solar panel performance warranty - Most solar panels come with a 25 year performance warranty. This warrants performance will not be reduced below a certain amount after a specified period of time. For example, after 25 years, the panels will still be producing at least 80% of the power they were making when first installed. All panels degrade in the sun, but quite slowly. There are 40 year old solar panels still working happily.
  3. Inverter warranty – The inverter warranty period is specified on the quote. It is always at least 5 years, but many inverters offer 10 years as standard, once you register your purchase on their website. The inverter Warranty starts on the installation date. If the inverter is replaced, the remaining warranty will be transferred to the replacement inverter.
  4. Installation warranty - Electrical Lightbringers offers a full 10 year installation warranty on all our solar PV systems. This warrants our workmanship will be free from fault or defect for a period of 10 years commencing on the date the System is installed, and we will repair any such defect notified to us within the warranty Period, including by replacing all or part of the System where necessary, within a reasonable timeframe at no cost to you.Hot water timers, if installed, come with a one year warranty, as provided by the manufacturer.
